Dedication Service to John Manley

Vernon joined local community members and councillors at the dedication service for John Manley who helped fight off 4000 Zulu Warriors at the Battle of Rorke’s Drift in 1879.

John Manley was one of only 154 courageous defenders, who held out against  all odds versus the African forces to be  later  immortalised in the 1964  Michael Caine film  Zulu.

Now a memorial has been laid in recognition of his involvement in one of the  fiercest battles in British history.

Three generations of family attended the service at Carlton cemetery  alongside members of the Royal British Legion and  The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry  marching in full military regalia.
