Vernon Coaker MP

I have been the Member of Parliament for Gedling since 1997.

The Gedling constituency includes Arnold, Burton Joyce, Carlton, Colwick, Daybrook, Gedling, Mapperley, Netherfield, Stoke Bardolph and Woodthorpe.

I would like to thank the residents of Gedling for returning me as their MP in the recent election. It is a great privilege to continue to represent Gedling and I will continue to work hard for my constituents.

   Gritting

Vernon is aware that many constituents are having serious problems with ice and snow on their roads. He has been in regular contact with the Highways Agency requesting that they grit all hilly roads in Gedling and fill up grit bins.

He has also written to the Chief Executive at Nottinghamshire County Council requesting a review of the way this spate of cold weather has been dealt with and urgent action to grit more roads now.

In response to criticism of the Tory Council’s plan to cut £50,000 from their gritting budget I raised it at a meeting with the County. They have said they will review their gritting policy. Well more money needs to be spent, more salt stock-piled and more roads gritted. It was awful for so many in and around my constituency despite the heroic efforts of the emergency services and other workers.
