Malone Integrated College Visit

As part of one of his regular visits to Northern Ireland this past week, Vernon requested to visit an Integrated School.

He was brought to the school by the Integrated Education Funds’ Campaign Chair, Baroness May Blood, and they toured the classrooms and saw lessons in progress before Mr Coaker faced a group of A-level pupils for a question and answer session.

He was also joined by Baroness Blood and local MP Alasdair McDonnell.

Vernon said: “Since I became Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland I have been keen to forge links with different aspects of the community here. The work done in Malone Integrated College seems to give young people a fantastic grounding for future life in Northern Ireland and the wider world, and I wish them continued success. I would also like to congratulate the Integrated Education Fund on the work they have been doing for the past twenty years.”

Principal of Malone IC, Gerry Price said “We were honoured to be the first school which Mr Coaker has chosen to visit in Northern Ireland. We were delighted to show Mr Coaker the work we do in Malone Integrated College in giving pupils of all backgrounds and cultures a sound academic and social education. We have been very proud of exam results recently, and today we could be proud of the level of engagement and interest in the wider world shown by our pupils when they met our visitors.”
