Privatisation of Nottinghamshire Care Homes

The Tory County Council are planning to privatise local care homes in Nottinghamshire. Leivers Court in Arnold and Braywood Gardens in Carlton are two of the care homes included in the plans.

The Conservatives state that once sold the property will only have to stay a care home for three years. This means NO guarantee that residents will keep their homes or staff will keep their jobs at Leivers Court and Braywood Gardens.

Vernon said: "I will do all I can to support the wishes of all those concerned to prevent the privitisation. Nothing must be done to threaten the excellent quality of care provided and lets not forget the day centres as well."

Please support this campaign by writing to Councillor Kay Cutts at Nottinghamshire County Council urging the Tories to change their minds:

Vernon has recently written to Councillor Kay Cutts for an update of the Council's plans with respect to Care Homes in Nottinghamshire and we received the following response:

"The procurement process that will be used to sell the Council's residential care homes is due to commence at the end of Septmber 2010. It is envisaged that the process will take approximately 12 months so we would be looking to exchange contracts with potential purchasers in September 2011.

With regards to Leivers Court and Braywood Gardens specifically, each of the homes will be marketed seperately to enable as wide a range of organisations as possible to participate in the process.

During the 12 month period there will be considerable dialogue with potential purchasers so that the Council can be sure they are working with suitable organisations. When the sale is complete, then as agreed previously, existing residents will be protected and their care will be provided by the existing staff who will transfer at the point of sale to the new owner.

With regards to services provided from the homes currently, including day care, then we will also be having negotiations with potential purchasers during the procurement process."
