The Mayor chose fighting prostate cancer through the Urology department of Nottingham City Hospital as her chosen charity following her election to the office of Mayor last year.

Nottingham Post reported that around "3,500 people are being treated for prostate cancer at Nottingham's hospitals" and that it is estimated that "400 people are diagnosed with the disease each year".
