Vernon visited Paris for discussions with Defence Ministers and Party spokespersons from across Europe at a seminar hosted by The Party Of European Socialists.
There were very constructive discussions between European centre-left parties in Paris on EU defence and security matters.
Vernon stressed that the UK's roles in NATO and The EU are complementary not contradictory. Britain's interests are served by involvement in both.
He also had a meeting French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian. They agreed the UK and France's strong defence partnership is good for both countries.
