This morning, Vernon thoroughly enjoyed his tour of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust's (NWT) Faith Marriott Nature Reserve, tucked into the heart of the Arnold community (pictured below). The 'secret garden' was kindly left to NWT in 1999 as part of the legacy of local resident Faith Marriott. Ms Marriott also donated the neighbouring house, which was subsequently sold to fund NWT's conservation work.
The garden's original 1930s features have been restored and enhanced by the Trust, with the addition of raised herb beds, a pond, wildflower beds and native fruit trees bordering on a small woodland. The reserve is visited by many different species of wildlife, including foxes, newts and dragonflies. The Trust also uses the Faith Marriott garden to show people how easy it is to grow their own produce.
