Vernon votes against scrapping student maintenance grants

Today, Vernon voted against the government's plan to replace student maintenance grants with loans. The proposed policy change, announced during George Osborne's autumn statement, will adversely affect 500,000 of the poorest students in this country. Vernon is pictured below with NUS representatives who attended Parliament to oppose the measure.

Unfortunately, the policy was approved by 306 votes to 292 votes. However, the fight against unfair cuts to provision for disadvantaged students does not stop here. Vernon and his colleagues will continue to take every opportunity to oppose these measures.
